What is the First Home Owners Grant (FHOG)?

The First Home Owners Grant (FHOG) is a government-funded, one-time payment of $10,000 to assist first home buyers in purchasing or building a new home. It’s designed to help make homeownership more accessible and encourage individuals or couples to establish a permanent residence in a new property.

To apply for the grant, you can either submit the application through your approved lender, who will process it alongside your loan, or apply directly via the Department of Finance website.

What are the Eligibility Requirements for the First Home Owners Grant (FHOG)?

To qualify for the First Home Owners Grant (FHOG), you must meet the following criteria:

  • Are you at least 18 years of age?

  • Are you a first-time home buyer, with no prior ownership or interest in property in Australia, either individually or jointly?

  • Do you intend to occupy the property as your permanent residence for at least 6 months?

  • Are you and your partner married or in a de facto relationship?

  • Has neither of you received any other grants related to building or purchasing a home?
